Overview

Jazz Band is an extracurricular ensemble that meets once a week. Jazz Band is open to anyone in the band program regardless of age or experience. Acceptance into the group is through an audition. The Jazz Band performs at various school functions and concerts as well as at 1-2 jazz festivals each year.

Instrumentation

Jazz Band consists of the following instruments:

• Saxophones (Altos, Tenors, Bari)

• Trumpets

• Trombones

• Guitar

• Bass

• Piano

• Drum Set

There are many students involved who pick up a second instrument to participate. Examples of these would be a clarinetist playing saxophone or baritone playing on trombone or trumpet. See Mr. Jacobi for possibilities.

Acceptance

Acceptance into Jazz Band is done through an audition. Only students enrolled in band may audition if they plan on auditioning on a "band" instrument. In some cases where a student does not play a "band" instrument, enrollment in a concert band is not necessary (bass, guitar, piano).
